One Massage Therapy

FAQs

I have carried out a full risk assessment of the practice and have listed below the measures I am taking.

Firstly, if you are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms, please postpone or cancel your appointment. If you are a first-time client, your initial consultation will take place via telephone or email rather than during your appointment. This is to comply with Government guidelines to limit clinic time. If you are an existing client there will be a short update consultation prior to your appointment to discuss your needs. All consultation and consent documents will be signed at the appointment.

Please bring your own water if needed, as I can no longer supply this. I will supply you with an IIR face-mask which offers enhanced protection which you can choose to wear throughout the appointment or when in supine position. It would also be helpful if you wear clothing that is easy to remove and avoid wearing jewellery. Upon arrival, you will be required to remove your shoes and leave them on the mat at the entrance of the treatment room and sterilise your hands. There will be a container in which to put your clothes when you undress. The treatment room will have been thoroughly disinfected and all linen and face cradles replaced for each client.

All massage treatments will include an initial consultation at your first visit which will consist of a full assessment of your health, lifestyle, range of movement and presenting condition. Due to the current situation with coronavirus, consultations will now take place via the telephone prior to your appointment.  This is to adhere to government guidelines to limit patient clinic time.  Depending on what massage type you are having or what your presenting problem is, a postural assessment may be done and/or range of movement testing. Once the assessments have been carried out, a discussion had about the treatment plan and any expectations you may have then your hands-on treatment will begin. In some cases, appropriate exercises to carry out at home will be given. Follow-up sessions will include a debrief of how you have been since the last massage and re-testing if necessary.

It depends on your condition. For maintenance massages and wellness routines massages are recommended once a month. For chronic pain conditions it is recommended to seek treatment once a week for up to 6 weeks to achieve a reduction in pain. If pain reduction lasts between treatments, usually after week 3, then the length of time between appointments can get longer until you can move onto monthly maintenance treatments. One-off relaxing and hot stone treatments are also offered.
A deep sense of relaxation should follow treatment. It is normal for some people to experience redness, tenderness or soreness around the area worked on following treatment. This may last up to 72 hours but is a normal part of the healing process within the tissues.
Your body will be fully draped with towels throughout your treatment. Only the areas being worked on will be exposed at any time.

Anything you like. You will be asked to undress to your underwear following the consultation and will change behind a screen before getting on the couch and under a towel.

During postural assessments and range of movement testing you will be asked to undress to your underwear so appropriate clothing is needed. It is recommended that men wear shorts and for women a crop top or sports bra would be appropriate.
